We know you love TRAINS, and today I wanted to sit down with the two people that led and made our Add-On the one you know and love today. They both grew up loving trains and I think that really showed in the actual game itself.

We're going to be talking to Ayden, the lead developer of TRAINS and Matthew, the lead artist of TRAINS.

Ayden

Q: Tell us about yourself, and growing up what made you enjoy trains?

Hey, my name's Ayden and I've been with Podcrash since I was in high school. It started out as something I did for fun, helping build maps for Minecraft (Java), but eventually turned into a part time and then eventually full-time job.

Trains have been a soft-passion of mine for most of my life. Where I grew up in Canada, there was an Old Swedish steam engine that used to make tourist runs very near to my house. That engine is now long since gone, and the rails have been torn out in favor of a bike path.

Because of that upbringing with sometimes nearly daily access to a locomotive, I've always had a desire to see rail infrastructure expand and return in a big way to Canada.

Q: If you had to pick one, what is your favorite engine?

The black livery on the Basic Steam Engine in the TRAINS Add-On was inspired by the SJ E2. It was the first design we added when we started designing TRAINS. For those reasons, it's my favorite, bar none.

Matthew

Q: Tell us about yourself, and growing up what made you enjoy trains?

Hi there! My name is Matthew, I’ve been an artist at Podcrash for about 4 years now, and I have led the art direction for the trains Add-On! I’ve been very into trains since I was younger for a multitude of reasons. My family has a long history of engineering, so I grew up hearing stories of the work my grandfather did on the railroad, as well as being surrounded by tons of railway related people and items. We had a 7.5 gauge railway in our back yard until a few years ago, and even helped run a railroad museum when I was younger. I’ve always loved trains and I have been extremely proud to bring them to life in my favorite game!

Q: If you had to pick one, what is your favorite engine?

One of my favorite engines is the Santa Fe Super Chief, because of its sleek but powerful design, and the bold colors of its livery!

So, now you've met the creators behind your favorite Add-On, what's your favorite engine you'd like to see in the game.
